Summer Fun with Friends:

The above photo was taken at this June's Open House at Canoe Island French Camp.  Canoe Island is situated in the San Juan Islands in Washington State. It is a privately owned island between Lopez and Shaw Islands focused on teaching sciences and the French language.

I was so fortunate to be a guest of another Mills College Alumnae and her family.  The Tepee in the photo is in all actuality the one I slept in and had all to myself on our one night stay. This photo shows me and my introduction to French bowling.  I was fortunate to play with young Frenchmen who come to the island to act as staff.  I love the game so much that one of my friends here in Ashland and I are forming a league.  My friend owns two sets of the game balls and was seriously looking for others who like to play.

So many of my friends and family were unaware of the San Juan Islands existence, as was I.  The Islands  are worthy the effort of travel by car, ferry and motor boat to arrive at their destination.  We didn't spot a whale on our travels there, but spotted sea lions at Shark Reef Sanctuary on Lopez.  We saw many birds.  The quite of these islands together with the lavender, sheep, horse and cow farms is lovely.

I will post more of our road trip from Ashland to Seattle and the San Juan Islands soon.  Happy and safe travels this summer everyone.
